THE STORY
de Vos is a fine jewelry line designed by Céline Dussaud. The name “de Vos” derives from her grandmother, who came from a very creative family and was herself an illustrator and artist; they were textile and fashion experts, glass artists and painters. The earliest known of that history traces back to the late 1800s, when they were jewelers with a store in Bruxelles, Belgium. It felt natural for Céline to continue the family tradition of putting well-crafted and beautiful pieces out into the world.
Born to a German mother and French father, Céline grew up between a sailboat on the ocean and a farm in the mountains of Virginia. This unconventional and sometimes solitary childhood left her with a penchant for handicrafts, which later grew into a love of handmade designs and eventually the jeweler’s bench. Céline studied jewelry design and received her BFA at New York’s Pratt Institute. Her thesis “The Nuts and Bolts of an Iris” was featured by the Council of Fashion Designers of America, and Céline was named a CFDA graduate. A first place award from the Platinum Guild International included the creation of one of her designs by a New York jeweler, and so began her obsession with the chaos and culture of the city’s Diamond District. After some time working as a designer, Céline left her job, began freelancing, and returned to 47th street, building what would become the first de Vos collection: Ravel.
